An electric cart takes you from the gate to the temple area, so nobody walks the long approach. Giant bronze Buddhas, a huge bell and long rows of stone monks.
Temples ask for covered shoulders and knees. A light scarf or long trousers is enough. - Hoa Lu Ancient Capital
The capital of Vietnam 1,000 years ago. Two small temples to the old kings, flat and shady, with mountains all around.
- Lunch and a proper rest
A quiet local restaurant with a garden. Try crispy rice and mountain goat, or simple fried rice and chicken. Then time to sit back before the afternoon.
- Trang An by rowing boat
A local rower takes you through several caves and past small river temples. About 2 to 2.5 hours, seated, as the sun gets lower.
Life jackets for every size are on the boat. Bring hats and sunscreen. - Drive back to Hanoi
Kids usually sleep. One more rest stop if you need it.

It is about 2 hours each way, with a clean rest stop halfway. The car has reclining seats, so most children sleep on the way back.
Is the Trang An boat safe for children?
Yes. The boats are slow and stable, rowed by a local, and there are life jackets for every size, including small children. You stay seated for the whole ride.
How much walking is there?
Not much. The electric cart covers the long approach at Bai Dinh, Hoa Lu is flat and shady, and the boat ride is seated.
How much do children pay?
