For more than ten years we guided travellers across Vietnam, and we often heard the same hesitation from families. They wanted help with the planning, but many weren't ready to commit to a fixed itinerary, every day decided months ahead, for a place they'd never seen. How can you know, from your kitchen table, whether Grandma will cope with the heat, or whether the kids will want one more swim instead of one more temple?
So we started Vietnam Haven to plan your family tour with you, not just for you. No two families are the same, so every itinerary starts with listening. If you already know what you want, we plan it exactly that way. If you're not sure yet, we plan the highlights you came for, leave some time open, and suggest a few extras you can add along the way, once you've seen the place and know how everyone feels.

Vietnam Haven's home base on the central coast. My Khe beach has calmer water in the early morning and lifeguards on the main stretch; families swim before 9am and rest at midday.

Lantern-lit lanes and flat streets.
45 minutes from Da Nang. The Old Town is flat and mostly car-free, easy with a stroller. Families enjoy a gentle basket boat ride without spinning, conical hat painting and river lanterns at dusk.

The Imperial Citadel by electric car.
About 2.5 hours from Da Nang. The Imperial Citadel is large, so families visit early and use an electric car inside, avoiding long walks for grandparents. Dragon boat rides on the Perfume River are slow and seated.

A good overnight stop between the North and Central Vietnam.
A good place to break the journey between the North and Central Vietnam, by overnight train or by car. Phong Nha Cave is reached by boat and is flat inside, suitable for every age. Paradise Cave has many steps, so it is suggested only for steady walkers.

Old Quarter by cyclo and a water puppet show.
Vietnam's capital. Families see the Old Quarter by cyclo or electric car and watch a water puppet show, which lasts under an hour and is fully seated, suitable for young children.

Boat rides between limestone cliffs.
About 2 hours from Hanoi. Trang An boat trips pass limestone cliffs and low caves; boats are seated and have life jackets, so toddlers and grandparents can join. Mua Cave viewpoint has about 500 steps, so we skip it for grandparents.

Flat valley villages and bike rides.
About 3.5 hours from Hanoi. A flat valley of rice fields and stilt-house villages, easy for cycling with kids. Stilt houses have steep stairs, so ground-floor rooms are booked for grandparents.

About 4 hours from Hanoi on a winding mountain road with a rest stop. Rice terraces, bamboo bridges and cool air; best for families with older children. Lodges are chosen with rooms close to the main house.

Vietnam's largest city, about 1h20 by plane from Da Nang. A good starting point for the Mekong Delta and the Cu Chi Tunnels, with time to rest at the hotel in the heat of the afternoon.

Ask usYes. Vietnam is a very welcoming country for families, and violent crime against visitors is rare. The real risks are traffic, heat and uneven pavements, so we use private cars, plan outdoor time for the cooler hours and choose flat, shaded routes. Read: Is Vietnam safe?
As little as your family needs. We keep walking to short, flat stretches, with electric carts, cyclos or boats wherever they exist, and a seat nearby at every stop.
Yes. Tell us your children's ages when you book and we'll ask each hotel for cots and high chairs. We plan stroller-friendly routes where we can, and let you know the few places where a baby carrier is easier.
Yes, on request. We can arrange a trusted local babysitter to look after the little ones, so parents and grandparents get some time to themselves. February to April is the easiest time to travel the whole country, with mild temperatures north to south. Central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue) is also lovely until August, but it rains heavily from October to December. We'll suggest the right route for your dates.
We start early, head back to the hotel for a rest between late morning and mid-afternoon, and plan the next outing for late afternoon. Our cars carry water, and we choose shaded and indoor stops in the hottest months.
Yes. We check hotels for lifts, step-free rooms and bathroom access before we book, and plan wheelchair-friendly routes where possible. Some heritage sites have steps; we'll tell you which ones and suggest alternatives.

Every trip is private and priced for your whole family, not per seat. As a guide, our 10-day Hanoi to Hoi An journey starts from $830 for a family of four (land only), and every day trip is priced per family, not per person. Your first plan and quote are free.
We send a free plan and quote first. To confirm, you pay a 20% deposit; the rest is due 30 days before you arrive. We accept bank transfer, Wise, Remitly and PayPal, and in some cases cash on arrival. Plans can be changed free up to 30 days before travel, and cancellations more than 30 days ahead get the deposit back, minus bank fees.
